Gnocchi obsession

Gnocchi obsession

I’ve had a bit of a crazy week filled with lots of food and coffee (no surprises there). I never understood gnocchi. From a young age, my first and only experience had been the Latina Fresh version which was nothing compared to how it was supposed to taste. So I went through most of my life not knowing what it was supposed to taste like – until I tried some from H’s plate when he ordered it.

I fell in love with its pillowy goodness. Light and fluffy. I couldn’t believe I had been depriving myself of such an awesome pasta for so long. Anyway. Long story short I became obsessed. I was determined to make it myself. H was skeptical. But I usually have my way. Anyway. I made it in bulk over the weekend. For freezing. To eat. For the next few months.

If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be hiding under a giant pile of gnocchi.

A sparkly new year

A sparkly new year

Things are slowly coming together at the apartment. There is still a severe lack of anything resembling a couch, but most of the other essentials are there. One good bad thing about it is being so close to Adriano Zumbo. I can’t help but walk past to see if there are any new V8 cake variations. Usually I stop by to ogle at the pretty coloured macarons.

I can’t believe that Christmas and NY are all but over. Whilst the shopping centre decorations remain, my mother has since removed all vestiges of Christmas cheer from her home. I guess she likes to get a head start on things. My desk is still looking a little festive from the paper kirigami trees I made last month.

Oh H and I ventured over to The Grounds (late bloomers, I know). Let me just say, you can’t go past their bacon and egg sandwiches. Everything was perfect, the bread, bacon, egg. The whole lot. Best of all there is not much of a wait at all for them if you get it take away. We popped by before doing the Big Move for a quick coffee slash breakfast, and it was just the thing we needed.

Not a bad start to the new year. I’m embarking once again on the photo a day project on Instagram. I stuck through it in November, but failed dismally in December. But here’s to the new year and new beginnings!

I go through phases where I endeavour to post at least once a day. But unfortunately it seems I don’t always follow through. Life gets in the way and it just goes a little bit haywire from there. Anyway, this is me trying to make another serious attempt.

I’m wallowing in the aftermath of an amazing long weekend in Sydney (the weather was absolutely perfect). I have to say that despite it being over quicker than it began, I got a few things accomplished.

I went to Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo, which was hilariously enjoyable. It was the boy’s first time to Cirque. I’d seen Dralion once before so I knew what I was in for to some extent. I also got around to replacing my iPhone’s screen protector. A minor achievement, but an achievement nonetheless. I’ve recently switched to the iPhone 5 (and loving it).

I made some New York style bagels on Saturday with the hopes of having it for breakfast this week. That obviously wasn’t in the cards as all but one of the 14 I made made it to Tuesday. I guess it is just an excuse to make some more…

The boy and I originally were planning on going to Canberra to see the Floriade, but upon acknowledging there weren’t enough hours in the day to get there and back, we opted to go to Berry (a NSW country town). I find the smaller towns are just bursting with character and awesome photo opps.

I keep my Instagram most up-to-date of all my social media. Feel free to follow me!

Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Happy Monday to all!

I’m still wishing it was still the weekend. I’ve grown accustomed to sleeping in because of this cold snap. I’ve not recalled an autumn this cold before! Maybe I have a bad memory. Cold and I don’t really get along too well. I’m prone to getting sore throats from hopping in and out of hot and cold environments.

In any case. I had a quiet weekend. Babysat for a friend of mine, which was pretty much like house sitting since baby boy was sound asleep the whole time. H and I managed to take in two movies, The Vow and The Grey. I was personally disappointed with the ending, but I shan’t say too much here for those reading at home who are yet to see them at the cinemas.

I’m getting a hankering to do more arts and crafts. I’ve made quite a few paper bows for wrapping presents and gifts. I’m going through a paper crafting phase. I have all this craft paraphernalia that I need to organise in a more logical manner. In any case. I shall leave you with a snapshot of my Instagram pics.

  • Again it has been a while between my last post. I’ve been hibernating a little bit. The serial change in weather from hot to cold and cold to hot is seriously taking its toll on my immune system. I suppose I should drink more orange juice, but I don’t know what else to do. More multi-vitamins and exercise? There are only so many hours in the day.
  • I really dislike that musky smell that comes from dirty clothes that haven’t been laundered for a while. I more recently noticed this odour from a guy who sat opposite me on the train this morning. He looked like he needed a good laundering. I don’t understand how it can get to that stage in the first place.
  • I’ve been indulging in junk food lately. I blame my sickness. I’ve been eating fruit in between however. I’m not sure if it has provided me with the salvation that I need, but I consume it nevertheless. My favourite go-to’s have been apples, bananas and blueberries.
  • My asparagus plant is beginning to spear. I think that these are only primary shoots though, and that I need to wait a little longer for the real harvest-able shoots to sprout up. In any case, progress is progress!

Thursday rants + Instagram dump

My mum asked me to mail something for her friend overseas. I suppose I should get off my butt and toddle down to the Post Office before it closes, but something is compelling me to sit here and write a blog. These things can never be explained and remain a mystery to me. Obligatory comment about the weather: they predicted a lot of rain this week, but at the moment it is pretty humid and sunny. I find this odd, but I guess I can’t complain. I wore tights with my skirt/shirt combination today. I removed my tights by midday. I really couldn’t stand it any more.

I encountered an interesting woman on the bus today. I was minding my own business and listening to music on my headphones when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn around and this woman was shoving a pamphlet in my face entitled “Comfort for the Depressed”. Now I didn’t think I looked particularly sat. I think I was more sad that she ruined my train of thought, but to each their own. I do think that she was

I hate to say it and be so negative, but I’ve had enough of silly people who make a giant fuss out of nothing. More like they don’t really know what they are talking about, but they decide to talk to you anyway. No. Please get your facts straight before coming to me, because it is just the biggest waste of my time, not to mention yours. Someone rang me on the phone today with some pointless argument. I calmly put the phone down on the table (I knew I’d get riled up otherwise – I think it’s my coping mechanism), and picked it up once they were finished talking.

On a more positive note, here is my colourful week so far on Instagram. I’m peachcordial if you want to add me! :) I hope your Thursday’s are going better and more happier than mine! Xx
